About Visual Finances
Visual Finances is a free, open suite of financial calculators and plain-English explainers covering mortgages, retirement, investing, debt payoff, and more. Every calculator runs entirely in your browser — your numbers never leave your device.
Why I built it
I'm a software engineer who spent years teaching myself personal finance the hard way — through spreadsheets, forum deep-dives, and trial and error. The tools I found online were either buried behind paywalls, cluttered with ads, or so simplified they couldn't answer real questions.
Visual Finances is the tool I wanted when I was starting out: interactive, honest about the math, and focused on building intuition rather than just spitting out a number. If you can drag a slider and see your 30-year mortgage interest change in real time, you understand something no static article can teach.
About the author
I'm StevenPG — a software engineer with a long-running interest in personal finance. I'm not a licensed financial advisor, but I've spent years studying index-fund investing, tax-advantaged accounts, debt payoff strategies, and retirement planning. The calculators and articles here reflect that research, checked against primary sources like the IRS, Social Security Administration, and peer-reviewed financial literature.
None of this is financial advice — it's education. For decisions that affect your actual money, please work with a licensed professional who knows your situation.
